Common Blogging Application Data Model Design

The data model for a blogging application typically involves several core tables: Users, Articles, Comments, and Favorites, as well as additional tables for Personal Profiles and Followers.

Users Table

The Users table stores users' essential information, differentiating between ordinary users and administrators.

Common Fields

  • ID: An integer that is auto-incremented and unique, serving as the unique identifier for users within the app.

  • Created_at: A timestamp that records when the user registered.

  • Updated_at: A timestamp that records the last update.

  • Name: Text.

  • Email: Text, unique.

  • Role: Text, distinguishing between ordinary users and administrators.

  • My Articles: A relational field created by establishing a one-to-many relationship with the Articles table, allowing users to access all articles they have created.

  • My Comments: A relational field linking to the Comments table, enabling users to view all comments they have posted.

  • My Favorites: A relational field linking to the Favorites table, enabling users to view all content they have favorited.

Permission Configuration

  • Ordinary users can view and edit their name and email but cannot change their role.

  • Administrators can access and edit all user information, including roles.

Articles Table

This table stores all information related to blog posts published by users.

Common Fields

  • ID: An integer that is auto-incremented and unique.

  • Created_at: A timestamp marking when the article was published.

  • Update_at: A timestamp marking the last time the article was edited.

  • Title: Text.

  • Content: Text.

  • Author ID: A relational field linking to the Users table, identifying the author of the article.

  • Comments: A relational field linking to the Comments table, allowing visibility of all comments on the article.

Permission Configuration

  • Ordinary users can only edit their articles.

  • Administrators can edit all articles.

Comments Table

This table records users' comments on articles.

Common Fields

  • ID: An integer that is auto-incremented and unique.

  • Content: Text.

  • Created_at: A timestamp marking when the comment was posted.

  • Article ID: A relational field linking to the Articles table, identifying the article commented on.

  • Author ID: A relational field linking to the Users table, identifying the commenter.

Permission Configuration

  • Users can only edit their comments.

  • Administrators can edit or delete any comment.

Favorites Table

This table is used to store articles that users have bookmarked.

Common Fields

  • ID: An integer that is auto-incremented and unique.

  • User ID: A relational field linking to the Users table, identifying the user who favorited an article.

  • Article ID: A relational field linking to the Articles table, identifying the favorited article.

Permission Configuration

  • Users can view and manage their own favorites.

  • Administrators can view and manage the favorites of all users.

Followers Table

This table is used to store the follow relationships among users.

Common Fields

  • ID: An integer that is auto-incremented and unique.

  • Follower ID: A relational field establishing a many-to-one relationship, identifying users who follow this user.

  • Followee ID: A relational field establishing a many-to-one relationship, identifying the people this user follows.

Permission Configuration

  • Users can view and edit their own list of followers.

  • Administrators can view all users' lists of followers.
